The vultures eye

The Tale tell heart, is a short story written by Edgar Alan Poe. This short story is about a man that goes crazy just because the eye of an old man disturbed him. Every night the protagoist would go to the old man's house to kill him or take his eye so it wouldn't bother the protagonist ever again. One night the old man got awake and the protagonist killed him by putting the bed covers in his face very tightly so he wouldnt breathe. Finnaly he killed the old man and felt satisfied for some moments. Then the protagonist hid the body so no one could find it. After that the police came becuase people were concerned about the screams of the old man. The protagonist lied and said that he came in to see what happended. The policeman believed him and started asking some questions. While the policeman talked to the protagonist, he described to the reader that he started hearing some noises, like the beating heart of the old man. He said that the more he talked with the policemen , the louder the beating sounded. When the protagonist said that the sound was unsufferable, he conffesed everything.

The author has a good use of imagery. He paints a perfect picture of what he is describing in your mind.

"Its true!Yes, I have been ill, very ill. But why do you say that i have lost control of my mind, why do you say that I am mad? Can you not see that i have full control of my mind?Is it not clear that i am not mad? Indeed, the illness only made my mind, my feelings, my senses stronger , more powerful. I could hear sounds i have never heard before. I hear sounds from heaven; and i heard sounds from hell!Listen! Listen, and I will tell you how it happened. You will see, you will hear how healthy my mind is."

He uses imagery to describe how crazy the protagonist was becoming. The protagonist in here tries to convince you to think that he is not crazy but, he is .

"He had never hurt me. I did not want his money. I think it was his eye. His eye was like the eye of a vulture, the eye of one of those terrible birds that watch and wait while an animal dies, and then fall upon the dead body and pull it to pieces to eat it. When the old man looked at me with his vulture eye a cold feeling went up and down my back; even my blood became cold. And so, I finally decided I had to kill the old man and close that eye forever!"

Also he describes very good the eye of the old man and how much the protagonist hated it .He describes it as a vultures eye.

"My head hurt and there was a strange sound in my ears. I talked more, and faster. The sound became clearer. And still they sat and talked.Suddenly I knew that the sound was not in my ears, it was not just inside my head. At that moment I must have become quite white. I talked still faster and louder. And the sound, too, became louder. It was a quick, low, soft sound, like the sound of a clock heard through a wall, a sound I knew well. Louder it became, and louder. Why did the men not go? Louder, louder. I stood up and walked quickly around the room. I pushed my chair across the floor to make more noise, to cover that terrible sound. I talked even louder. And still the men sat and talked, and smiled. Was it possible that they could not hear?? "

The author describes the thumping sounds acurately. The protagonists says that the sounds grew louder and louder.

"When the old man looked at me with his vulture eye a cold feeling went up and down my back. Because, I finally decided I had to kill another man!"

This shows that the protagonist has a serious mental problem and he is very mad. The protagonist has something against the eye of the poor old man's eye.

 “Yes! Yes, I killed him.”

This shows that the protagonist is capable of doing anything to get what he wants.  But when he finnaly gets what he wants, he realizes the concecuenses .

"The old man was dead"

The protagonist madness affects negatively on the old man. The madness that he has makes him kill the old man only so he wouldn't see his eye ever again

“The old man gave a loud cry of fear as I fell upon him and held the bed covers tightly over his head….
The old man was dead.”

This quote reveals that, the protagonist is very crazy. The protagonist can’t bear seeing the eye of the old man

In my opinion this short story was very interesting. The theme in this story is very good and true. No one likes and can bear the burden or the weight of the guilt . Specially no one can resist the weight of guilt of murder. The guilt and all of your conscience will bother you.
